Artificial intelligence can expand access to knowledge, reduce barriers, strengthen human capability, and support communities that have historically lacked reliable access to digital infrastructure. It can also create significant risks when it is designed or deployed without care, accountability, or respect for human rights.

This Charter establishes the ethical commitments of I am J Corporation across the I am J commercial platform, enterprise services, APIs, research activities, and J-SPARK Nexus deployments. It is intended to guide decisions from early research and product design through deployment, monitoring, incident response, and retirement.

This Charter is a public statement of direction and responsibility. It complements applicable law, contractual commitments, privacy and security requirements, and more detailed I am J governance policies.

1. Purpose and Ethical Foundation

Our purpose is to develop and deploy AI that increases trusted access to knowledge while preserving human dignity, agency, safety, and fairness.

We recognize that ethical responsibility extends beyond technical performance. It includes the social context of deployment, the people affected, the distribution of benefits and risks, and the ability of individuals and institutions to question or challenge AI-supported outcomes.

2. Respect for Human Dignity and Rights

We design and operate AI systems with respect for internationally recognized human rights, civil liberties, privacy, equality, cultural identity, freedom of expression, and the rights of children and vulnerable persons.

3. Human Agency and Meaningful Choice

AI should support people—not quietly displace their authority in decisions that materially affect their rights, safety, opportunities, or access to essential services.

4. Beneficial Purpose and Proportionality

We evaluate whether an AI use has a legitimate and beneficial purpose, whether the use is proportionate to the need, and whether a less intrusive or lower-risk approach could reasonably achieve the same goal.

We do not treat technical feasibility as sufficient justification for deployment. The expected public or user benefit must be considered alongside foreseeable misuse, unintended consequences, and effects on affected groups.

5. Fairness, Inclusion, and Non-Discrimination

We work to identify and reduce unjustified performance differences, exclusionary design choices, and discriminatory outcomes across languages, cultures, geographies, demographic groups, and accessibility needs.

6. Safety, Security, and Reliability

We pursue safety and reliability throughout the AI lifecycle through risk assessment, testing, security controls, staged deployment, monitoring, incident management, and corrective action.

7. Privacy and Data Stewardship

We aim to collect and process only the data reasonably needed for a defined purpose, protect it appropriately, and respect lawful rights and expectations concerning access, correction, retention, and deletion.

8. Transparency and Honest Communication

We communicate material capabilities, limitations, dependencies, and risks in a manner appropriate to the audience and context.

9. Accountability and Governance

Responsibility for AI decisions remains with people and institutions. I am J assigns ownership for risk decisions, approvals, monitoring, incident response, and remediation.

10. Responsible Innovation and Research

We support experimentation and research that can improve safety, accessibility, reliability, and social benefit. Research involving people, sensitive data, vulnerable communities, or consequential uses should receive review proportionate to the risk.

We seek collaboration with universities, public institutions, NGOs, domain experts, and affected communities while protecting research integrity, confidentiality, and participant rights.

11. Special Responsibility in Education and Humanitarian Contexts

Deployments in schools, universities, remote communities, humanitarian operations, refugee settings, and disaster-response environments require particular care because users may face power imbalances, limited alternatives, language barriers, trauma, or heightened vulnerability.

12. Environmental and Social Sustainability

We consider the environmental and social costs of AI systems, devices, infrastructure, procurement, maintenance, and end-of-life handling. We seek practical efficiency, durable deployment models, responsible sourcing, and solutions that deliver meaningful value relative to their resource use.

13. Implementation, Review, and Continuous Improvement

This Charter is implemented through supporting policies, risk assessments, technical controls, training, contractual requirements, governance reviews, and reporting mechanisms.

We will review this Charter at least annually and when material changes in technology, law, risk, or deployment practice occur. We welcome good-faith scrutiny and evidence that can improve our approach.
